    COMMUNITY INJURY PREVENTION COORDINATOR

Stefania began her career at Highland General Hospital in 2001 as a medical social worker. Over the years she was stationed in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and as the Trauma & Surgery social worker throughout all inpatient units. In 2008 she accepted the position as Injury Prevention Coordinator. Two years later she became a member of the TEC committee, serving as the first prevention coordinator to join the group. Working bedside (intervention) for her initial years doing crisis response for patients and their families and assisting with adequate and safe discharges prepared her for work in the community (prevention) conducting outreach and engagement, education and awareness and spearheading model programs for gun violence and senior falls.

In 2018 Stefania added Stop The Bleed and PTSD Screens to her priority list, both relevant in any traumatic situation. Stefania is a Certified National Passenger Safety Seat Technician Instructor, Master Trainer in Matter of Balance, Instructor for Stop The Bleed and Instructor/Trainer for many Distracted Driving and Driving Under the Influence courses for teens, adults and seniors. In 2024 Stefania became the Trauma Survivor Network Coordinator, was certified in Understanding Concussions, introduced new technology for assessing fall risk with a Balance Tracking System and continues awareness efforts with safe sleep, electric scooter safety and suicide prevention. Founder and original member of the California Injury Prevention Coordinators group. Other committee memberships include Ethics, Schwartz Rounds, Alameda County Safe Kids, Child Injury Prevention Bay Area, Alameda County Senior Injury Prevention Program, Alameda County Child Death Review and the American Trauma Society.
