January 2016 marks the 1-year anniversary of having the area’s only Level II trauma center. Natividad Medical Center received this important designation on Jan. 5, 2015, after an extensive review by a team of trauma care experts from Los Angeles. The designation followed a 2 1/2-year effort by Natividad that was part of a four-year Monterey County Emergency Medical Services Agency process to designate a local hospital as a trauma center. Before Jan. 5, 2015, Monterey County was the largest of the remaining counties in California without a designated trauma center.
